Alison Stewart Explores America’s Love Affair With Stuff – EXTENDED INTERVIEW

FEATURING ALISON STEWART – Here are some shocking statistics about how Americans live: According to the Los Angeles Times, the average American home has 300,000 items. The average size of homes in the US has nearly tripled over the past half century. And still, 10% of all Americans rent space outside their homes to store the stuff that doesn’t fit. In fact storage rental is apparently the fastest growing part of the real estate industry.

Exploring our propensity to collect and store stuff is my guest Alison Stewart. In her new book ‘Junk: Digging Through America’s Love Affair With Stuff’ she met all sorts of Americans – hoarders, trash removal experts, and artists who use found objects.
