Boy With a Knife: A Story of Murder, Remorse, And a Prisoner’s Fight for Justice

FEATURING JEAN TROUNSTINE – Most of us are familiar with the disturbing statistic about the US imprisoning more people than any other country in the world. But what we are also known internationally for is imprisoning children. Youth charged with serious crimes are often tried in adult courts and sentenced to adult prisons where they mix with the adult inmate population. Poor young people of color are disproportionately more likely to end up in those situations.

My guest Jean Trounstine has just written a new book focused on the story of one young man name Karter Kane Reed, who found himself charged, tried, and sentenced to an adult prison.

Jean Trounstine, a long-time expert on prison issues. Her earlier book is called Shakespeare Behind Bars: The Power of Drama in a Women’s Prison. Her new book is Boy With a Knife: A Story of Murder, Remorse, And a Prisoner’s Fight for Justice.
