Breaking the Silence on Yemen’s Horrifying Cholera Epidemic

FEATURING BENJAMIN VIACEK – Stephen O’Brien, the United Nations’ Humanitarian Chief announced on Friday that that the impoverished and war-torn Gulf Arab nation of Yemen was experiencing, “the world’s largest-ever, single-year cholera outbreak.” More than 2,000 people have already died of cholera and a whopping half a million people are estimated to have been infected.

Mr. O’Brien added that, “[t]his human tragedy is deliberate and wanton,” and called attention to the dramatic rise in air strikes and armed clashes this year.

The neighboring fundamentalist monarchy of Saudi Arabia has been waging a relentless war against Yemen since 2015, with the advice and support of the US government. So far about 10,000 civilians have been killed in the course of war, and 3 million displaced.
