FEATURING NINA TURNER: The presence of progressive representatives of color in Congress, especially since 2018, has helped push the U.S. government into a markedly more liberal direction. Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley in particular have applied effective pressure against center of the Democratic Party. Many credit them for President Joe Biden’s leftward tilt. Now, in a special election being held this year in Ohio, there may be another new member to join the “Squad.”
