Could Deb Haaland Become Congress’ First Native American Woman Member?

FEATURING DEB HAALAND – It is an amazing fact that there are no Native American women in the United States Congress. None at all. There are a few indigenous men, but no women. Several women are hoping to change that this year, a banner year for first time candidates for Congress.

Among the handful of Native American women running for office is Debra Haaland in New Mexico’s First District. Haaland has just released her platform, strongly based on progressive economic and social values. On June 5th, she won the Democratic primary in her district, sending her to November’s midterm election.
