Indigenous Activist Declares ‘Natives for Science’

Among the tens of thousands of people who came to downtown Los Angeles on Saturday April 22nd for the March for Science were people from marginalized communities that are disproportionately impacted by environmental pollution and climate change. Native American communities in particular have faced the brunt of industrialization and last year the front line of the climate justice movement blossomed in Standing Rock, North Dakota where indigenous activists calling themselves “water protectors” attempted to block the Dakota Access oil pipeline.

At the march in Los Angeles, I spoke with Courage, the founder of the group Divest LA who spent two months at Standing Rock.
