ITT Tech Students Launch Debt Strike Over Federal Loans

FEATURING RONNIE GODWIN – Just days after the ITT Technical Institute shut down its hundred plus campuses, students have launched a debt strike, saying they will not pay back their student loans. More than 40,000 students and 8,000 staff nationwide have been impacted. The closure came in response to the Federal government announcing it would suspend financial aid for new students.

John King, US Secretary of Education said that some ITT students may be able to get their federal student loans dismissed. But those involved in the debt strike, said in an open letter to the government, “Each of us is still left with tens of thousands of dollars of debt to you, the very agency that was supposed to have protected us from ITT’s scam.”

Last year students from Corinthian colleges launched a similar debt strike after their for-profit educational institutions filed for bankruptcy.
