LA City Council Roiled by Racism, Anti-Blackness

FEATURING EUNISSES HERNANDEZ - Los Angeles has been roiled by scandal of national proportions over the past week, centered on a leaked audio recording of a meeting last year between 3 City Council members and Ron Herrera, president of the L.A. County Federation of Labor. Nury Martinez, then President of LA City Council was chief among those who used disparaging and racist remarks about the adopted Black son of fellow council member Mike Bonin.

While Martinez and Hererra have resigned from their positions, the two other council members, Kevin De Leon, and Gil Cedillo, as of this recording, remain in their seats. They have, however, both been stripped of their committee assignments.
