New Report Warns NAFTA Reboot Locks in Climate Change

FEATURING BEN BEACHY – Trade representatives from the three member nations of the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) are wrapping up meetings in Washington this week. A spokesperson told reporters that negotiations are in the middle of “intensified engagement” and there are reports that a finalized deal could come within weeks.

Civil sector representatives have demanded a renegotiation of NAFTA for years. But the reboot of the more than 20-year old trade deal appears to be going in the opposite direction. A new report published by the Sierra Club, the Council of Canadians, and Greenpeace Mexico warns that the new version of NAFTA appears to be more of a “Climate Denier’s Trade Deal” rather than promoting a, “Clean Energy Economy.”
