Private Prisons Overjoyed by Trump’s Reversal of Obama Decision

FEATURING JEREMY MOHLER – When the Obama administration last year announced that it would begin phasing out the use of private prisons for federal inmates, prison reform advocates rejoiced. Private prisons have been found to cut far too many corners and face accusations of corruption, abuse, and horrific conditions.

But with the incoming Trump administration, companies like GEO, and CoreCivic (which used to be Corrections Corporation of America), can continue to profit off of the incarceration. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has ordered to Bureau of Prisons to resume contracting with private companies to house inmates, undoing the hard work that activists have spent years doing to expose the insidious industry.
