FEATURING CHENJERAI KUMANYIKA – The city of Philadelphia has become a major national flashpoint in the grassroots campaign to abolish the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. An encampment in front of an ICE detention center set up days ago, was raided by police. Several people were violently arrested. Protesters were undeterred and simply moved their action to the front of the Philadelphia City Hall.
In addition to calling for an end to ICE, people are demanding that Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney end the Preliminary Arraignment Reporting System (PARS) agreement.
Among those on the front lines of the Philadelphia occupation is our correspondent Chenjerai Kumayika.
Chenjerai Kumanyika is an Assistant Professor in the Rutgers University Department of Journalism and Media Studies and a news correspondent for Rising Up With Sonali.
