FEATURING HUWAIDA ARRAF - The Trump administration sent federal immigration enforcement agents to arrest Mahmoud Khalil, a prominent Palestinian student activist at Columbia University, New York. Federal agents arrived at his building lobby claiming the State Department had revoked his student visa and that he was being deported. When informed that he was a permanent legal resident, or Green card holder, the agents responded by saying that was also revoked.
Green card holders are generally not deported unless they have committed a crime. In Khalil’s case, Trump has targeted him over vague accusations of antisemitism on college campuses. As of March 11, a judge has temporarily blocked Khalil’s deportation. Trump’s Education Department has now identified a list of 60 universities that are under investigation.
