Trump’s Presidency Has Unleashed More Hate

FEATURING MARK POTOK – A day after a number of Jewish Community Centers closed down after receiving phone threats and a Jewish cemetery in Missouri was desecrated, Donald Trump finally denounced anti-Semitism. He did so very briefly during a scripted speech at the National Museum of African American History and Culture on Tuesday saying, that “anti-Semitic threats targeting our Jewish community and community centers are horrible, and are painful, and a very sad reminder of the work that still must be done to root out hate and prejudice and evil.” The statement came after at least two incidents of Trump’s embarrassing responses to reporters’ questions on anti-Semitism where he appeared defensive and avoided answering the questions directly.

Threats and abuses against American Jews, Muslims, and immigrants are rising since Trump’s electoral-college victory last year. Meanwhile, the Southern Poverty Law Center’s annual census of hate groups in the US was just released and concluded that “The number of hate groups in the United States rose for a second year in a row in 2016 as the radical right was energized by the candidacy of Donald Trump.”
