FEATURING ADAM BEITMAN – Scott Pruitt, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency is under fire on multiple fronts inside and outside government. Environmental activists are up in arms about the EPA’s roll-back of President Obama’s fuel efficiency standards for vehicles. Pruitt is doing President Donald Trump’s bidding in that regard. Polls show that a majority of Americans approve of greater fuel efficiency standards.
But Pruitt is also provoking the President’s ire for the bad publicity he has garnered over several ethics entanglements. Several recent revelations strongly suggest he is doing the bidding of energy companies through a major lobbyist named Steven Hart who works for the firm Williams & Jensen. And, he has been found to be wasting tax-payer money on a 24/7 security detail for personal trips to Disneyland, and sporting events, and reportedly gave two of his favorite aides massive raises over White House objections.
And finally CNN reported this week that Pruitt has revoked the authority of regional experts to oversee enforcement of the Clean Water Act. According to the Sierra Club this now means that, “Pruitt can arbitrarily designate areas as inside or outside the Clean Water Act’s jurisdiction and deny any science or community input.”
