A Short Absence
Dear friends,
Last year at this time, I was fleeing with my family from the edges of the Eaton Fire in Altadena, desperately hoping my home would be spared – it was, thank goodness. While 2025 began with near-catastrophe, sadly, for me, one year later, an even greater tragedy struck. On the eve of returning to work from the holiday season to bring you solutions journalism coverage of our insane news cycle, I lost my beloved sister.
My family and I are reeling from the grief--I am currently in Canada where my sister resided. And while I can't help but hear of the news of Venezuela, and the ICE shooting, and Greenland all around me, my focus is on my family and on my own struggle of coming to terms with the loss.
I hope to be back by the week of January 19, crafting content for my generous subscribers, inspiring and fomenting change.
In the mean time, I leave you with one message: hold your loved ones close, tell them every day how much you love them.
