FEATURING ALEXANDER REID ROSS – The rise of white supremacy in the US going hand-in-hand with the election of Donald Trump has left many Americans worried about the short-term impacts on policy and society. But there is also a serious concern about the long-term ramifications of an emboldened movement that appears to be motivated by racial purity and white ethno-nationalism.

US history and importantly European history has much to teach us about how such movements evolve, what the distinctions are between groups and ideologies, how even leftist ideology becomes part of fascist movements, and how fascism takes political power.

Alexander Reid Ross, lecturer at Portland State University, freelance journalist. He is the editor of Grabbing Back: Essays Against the Global Land Grab, and Against the Fascist Creep.
