And That's a Wrap... (On my Book Tour)
The final leg of my book tour for Breaking ICE: Community Defense Against State Terror and MAGA Fascism was a wonderful success!
To all my new subscribers who signed up when you met me this past week in Denver, Boulder, or Minneapolis, WELCOME! And... here comes the upsell 😬 ...
Remember how inspired you felt when you heard about the powerful victories that the anti-ICE movement has won , how energized you were to think about abolitionist visions for our world? Such ideas are infused into all my programming, which you can preserve if you become a paying subscriber. As I approach my 25th anniversary of being a journalist in March 2027, I truly hope I can continue doing the rewarding work of solutions journalism and that I can count on people like YOU to sustain it.
Each week you'll have access to 3-4 new interviews with organizers, activists, academics, storytellers, authors, and leaders in the movements for social justice. You'll be able to listen to the audio files, watch the videos, or read the full transcripts. This is an enormous amount of content, created singlehandedly BY ME, for your enjoyment and as part of what's required for strengthening our democracy.
In Denver, the folks at Free Speech TV, which airs Rising Up With Sonali and Rising Up For Justice, hosted a conversation between me and Gladis Ibarra, Co-Executive Director of the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition. The discussion on immigrant rights, community self defense and abolitionist goals was recorded at The Shop at Matter, a wonderful design studio and bookstore for radical creatives. Watch a clip below, a taste of a future broadcast in the works.
In Boulder, Colorado, the wonderful community radio station KGNU, which has been broadcasting Rising Up With Sonali for years, organized a special event at their brand new studios. Special thanks to news director Abby O'Brien and station manager Tim Russo for a warm welcome and to all the lovely listeners who showed up to hear me speak and purchase copies of my books.
And what better city to end my tour on than the national epicenter of the anti-ICE movement, Minneapolis. At Moon Palace Books, a stunning indie bookstore, I had the honor of sharing the stage with two of my book contributors, historian and author Prof. Yohuru Williams and educator and public schools activist Shannon Gibney. Also joining us on stage was Peter Rachleff, labor historian and co-founder of the East Side Freedom Library. The room was packed and the conversations powerful.
OH AND... I ASSUME you conscientious consumers of radical solutions journalism (those of you who are US citizens, that is) are all on top of it with respect to filling out your ballots and voting in Tuesday's midterms. 🗳️ 🗳️ 🗳️
It's the least of the civic actions we can take. And yet, so critical.
THE HOLIDAYS ARE COMING.... ! 🎁 🎁 🎁

STORIES ON RISING UP:
In the wake of the great Dolores Huerta's passing, here is a conversation I got to have with her earlier this year...
DOLORES HUERTA: "I think this is a police force, a death force that Trump has created something that we've never seen. Maybe something like a KKK. This is kind of an official KKK that has been formed by our president. And of course, their job is to attack and terrorize and kill, it looks like, people of color."
Corporate media's goal is to leave you feeling overwhelmed and accept the status quo.
BONUS EPISODE:
Rising Up to Undo Mass Incarceration Through Research
WANDA BERTRAM: "[W]ith all of the public money that they have, with all of the support from the federal government, from the military, all of the forensic tools that they have, what police have still chosen to do with their time and with their effort is, for the most part, arrest people for low-level, nonviolent offenses."
