Our partners at Brave New Films have just released a new short film with the California Endowment called The Crime of California’s Punishment Economy which exposes the booming business of locking people up. State taxpayers spend $20 billion per year to operate one of the largest prison systems in the world. The video shines a light on this harmful, ineffective, and expensive system that overwhelmingly targets poor people of color and shares ways in which the money can be better spent.
