Conversations with Local Immigrant Rights Organizers
I just returned from a wonderful trip to Seattle where the latest stop in my book tour took place. A small but enthusiastic audience showed up at Town Hall Seattle to discuss my new book, Breaking ICE. What I hadn't expected was just how much I would learn from my conversation partner, Josefina Mora-Cheung, a wonderful Seattle-ite who is Director of Organizing at La Resistencia, one of the groups on the forefront of immigrant-organizing in Washington.
Josefina, who I hope to bring on as a guest on Rising Up in the next few weeks, explained how much of Washington's anti-ICE organizing has taken place around immigrant detainee flights. They used clear and plain language to debunk so many of the MAGA talking points about who is being impacted. La Resistencia's inspiring work has an explicitly abolitionist framing, which of course immediately drew me in!
