Democratic Party Platform Includes Closure of US Military Training School

FEATURING HENDRIK VOSS – After Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders openly endorsed Hillary Clinton for the party nominee, many contended that the Democratic Party platform was the most progressive ever, and that that was a result of Sanders’ candidacy.

On at least one point the party’s platform looks quite progressive. One of the planks in the platform agreed to shut down the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC), formerly known as the School of the Americas. WHINSEC is a US-based notorious training school for soldiers from primarily Latin American countries that have engaged in systemic human rights abuses. The group SOAWatch has been doggedly attempting to shut it down for years.
