FEATURING SARAH POSNER – On Tuesday the US Supreme Court will hear arguments in a major case around religious freedom that has made its way through the legal system over several years. At the heart of the case is the right of a Colorado cake maker named Jack Phillips to not design cakes for people who he feels are violating his religious beliefs – namely same sex couples seeking to get married.
Backing Phillips is a well-funded organization called Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) which has been designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Now, a new investigation by reporter Sarah Posner has uncovered the veritable army of lawyers that ADF trains and deploys to further its religious fundamentalist agenda.
