This week on Rising Up for Justice, Stephen Rohde, a founder and current chair of Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace joins me. Stephen was involved in civil rights movements for almost 50 years and is the co-host of Law and Disorder Radio and Podcast. He is the author of “American Words of Freedom” and “Freedom of Assembly.”

Sonali Kolhatkar: I have watched ICUJP do its work for many years now, maybe perhaps the amount of time that I've been a journalist. You're based in Los Angeles, where I am as well. Tell me about ICUJP. For those outside of LA who may not be as familiar with your work, what is the organization's main goals?
Stephen Rohde: ICUJP was founded 25 years ago this year. Our motto and vision is "Religious communities must stop blessing war and violence." That's been our single-minded focus, although it has taken us to a range of issues, of a range of wars across the globe over our 25 years.
But we've been single-minded about that vision. We've been deliberate in organizing to achieve that goal. Sadly, every year seems to present new challenges for peace and justice in the United States and around the world, so we're going to stay at it for the foreseeable future.
