FEATURING SARAH CROWE – UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund has just released a disturbing new report about the dangers facing children in the refugee crisis impacting the Middle East and Europe. The report, entitled, Danger Every Step of the Way: A harrowing journey to Europe for refugee and migrant children, details how the most vulnerable refugees – children – face abuse, exploitation, rape, and death. Shockingly more than 90% of children arriving in Europe this year were unaccompanied minors.
Most of the refugees risk their lives traveling from Somalia, Nigeria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria to Libya, whose port capital Tripoli, lies on the Mediterranean coast. They pay smugglers to board risky boats and rafts and head to various European coastal countries, such as Italy.
