Oklahoma, Texas, and the Coming End of 'Roe

FEATURING IMANI GANDY – Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt just signed into law the most restrictive state-level anti-abortion bill in the nation. The bill passed the GOP-dominated Oklahoma state legislature with 80 percent support earlier this month. Oklahoma had become a refuge for people seeking abortions from neighboring Texas where anti-abortion advocates have found great success.

In fact, in Texas, a 26-year old woman was recently slapped with murder charges in a case of self-induced abortion. Although the state dropped the charges days later, the move had a chilling effect on abortion access.

Meanwhile, as reproductive justice advocates expect the “Roe Vs. Wade” precedent to be overturned by the conservative-dominated Supreme Court, the Senate just narrowly voted in the nation’s first Black woman Justice, Ketanji Brown Jackson.
