FEATURING LIZ NELSON – A massive leak of more than 13 million documents from a secretive Bermuda-based firm called Appleby has shone light on the moneyed dealings of many wealthy elites. In the spirit of the Panama Papers from the firm Mossack Fonseca which were published two years ago, this latest data dump has been dubbed the Paradise Papers.

A pair of German reporters got a hold of the documents from Appleby and shared them with nearly 400 journalists working for more than 90 media organizations in 67 nations. The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, which released the Panama Papers has also published the entire Paradise Papers trove in a searchable database.

Among the controversial findings are business links between Donald Trump’s Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and Vladimir Putin’s son-in-law, as well as details of how the Russian government has investments in Twitter and Facebook through shell companies. Figures like Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the Queen of England and even popstar Bono, are cropping up in relation to the Paradise Papers. Here is a short video created by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists about the documents.
