This week on Rising Up for Justice, Dr. Judy Lubin, founder and president of the Center for Urban and Racial Equity (CURE) joins us.
ROUGH TRANSCRIPT:
Sonali Kolhatkar: Thank you so much for joining us. Now, on your website, it says that the Center for Urban and Racial Equity, or CURE, "Partners with people and organizations to advance equity through policy systems, institutional, and community change." So, that sounds a little formal and official. Give me the person-to-person version, the more detailed version of how you summarize the work your organization does, including the main issues you work on, which are, of course, racial equity.
Dr. Judy Lubin: Yes. Good question. So, CURE sits in between organizations and institutions and government that have resources and power and that are wanting to do better with communities. And so, we sit between those types of groups and community-based organizations and people in community that are wanting to make change. And we serve as a bridge, essentially translating.
We're rooted in community. We bring a healing-centered approach to our work, which is why other organizations come to us. And so, we serve as a bridge so that when there are equity initiatives, efforts to change systems and structures, that that work is able to be sustained, and the deep healing-centered work that needs to happen within communities and with communities actually happens in a way that moves us towards more sustainable change and transformation.
