Seattle Becomes First City to Ban Caste Discrimination
FEATURING THENMOZHI SOUNDARARAJAN - The city of Seattle last week became the nation’s first to ban discrimination on the basis of caste. South Asian workers, particularly in the tech industry, and beyond, have experienced caste-based discrimination at the hands of upper-caste Hindus in ways that have been invisible to non-South Asians. Now, activists who passed the Seattle ordinance hope to replicate their success in other cities.
