FEATURING SIR RICHARD J. EVANS – Americans have descended into a mass collective trauma over the past several months since the election. Many of us cannot believe that a man such as Donald Trump now occupies the White House and the barrage of assaults on constitutional protections, minority rights, immigrants and refugees, have left us struggling to respond fast enough.

The rise of anti-Semitism and white nationalist hate groups coinciding with Trump’s tenure  has also provoked a fear of fascism in the US. While it seems far-fetched to imagine a dictatorial era emerging out of Trump, it can be a useful exercise to examine history and learn in particular from what emerged in Germany before World War II.
