FEATURING NOURBESE FLINT - Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has arrested two abortion providers, a new stage in a crackdown against reproductive rights, after the state enacted its near total ban on abortion. Maria Margarita Rojas and Jose Ley were arrested at a clinic near Houston and face second-degree felony charges that could carry 20-year prison sentences. Rojas runs a small chain of abortion clinics called Clínicas Latinoamericanas. Paxton has arrested a third person in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, an investigation by Pro-Publica found that sepsis rates among pregnant people have shot up since Texas first banned abortions in 2021. At least two women have died from sepsis after their pregnancies failed when doctors feared carrying out procedures that could have been construed as abortions.
