One of the most dispiriting aspect of this past year was how right-wing dictators took hold of their constituencies, consolidated power, and boosted one another across borders. But equally inspiring were the people-powered movements that shut down cities, demanded change, and in some cases, altered the course of their nations – movements like those in Hong Kong, Sudan, Lebanon, and more.
