FEATURING WILLIAM I. ROBINSON – The Black Lives Matter movement in the United States has shone a spotlight on the violence of the state on primarily Black bodies at the hands of law enforcement. While much has been written about police violence and the carceral state, few have connected explicitly that the police state is directly linked to our system of global capital. My guest William Robinson writes in his new book, “Savage global inequalities are politically explosive and to the extent that the system is simply unable to incorporate surplus humanity it turns to ever more violent forms of containment.”
William I. Robinson, Professor of Sociology, Global Studies, and Latin American Studies, at the University of California-Santa Barbara. He is the author of several books including Global Capitalism and the Crisis of Humanity, and We Will Not Be Silenced. His newest book is called The Global Police State.
