SPECIAL REPORT BY TAMI HAMADA WORONOFF – On Saturday, just two days after a nationwide “Day Without Immigrants” strike, thousands of people gathered on a rainy day in downtown Los Angeles to show support for immigrant rights. It has been a disturbing four weeks since Donald Trump took office as President, with his “Muslim ban,” and vows to deport millions of undocumented immigrants.
Raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continue under Trump as they did under Obama, but there are indications that Trump is casting a wider net than his predecessor. A young immigrant who registered under Obama’s DACA program – the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals – has been arrested by ICE agents near Seattle, Washington.
ERRATUM: The title, “Immigrants Make America Great,” was briefly used to describe the march in the lead up to it but commenced under the title of Free the People Immigration March.
