FEATURING NOMI PRINS – Donald Trump promised to run the country like a business. And he is in fact doing exactly that – lowering government spending and cutting costs wherever he can, at the cost of Americans’ well-being.
But he is also running the country as if it were his own business. To date a number of his policy proposals would personally enrich him. Never mind that Trump has a dismal record of actually being a successful businessman, leaving behind a trail of bankruptcies and financial failures that others have had to clean up while he laughs all the way to the bank.
Nomi Prins, a former investment banker at Goldman Sachs, Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers, is a senior fellow at the public policy organization Demos. She is the author of the forthcoming book, Collusion: How Central Bankers Rigged the World. Her earlier books include All the Presidents’ Bankers: The Hidden Alliances That Drive American Power, and Other People’s Money: The Corporate Mugging of America. She recently wrote a piece in Tom Dispatch called The White House as Donald Trump’s New Casino.
