FEATURING JOSHUA FRANK – Hurricane Irma knocked out power for more than 10 million residents of Florida and damaged most homes in the Florida Keys this week. The devastating storm has also caused major damage in the states of Georgia and South Carolina. For those whose homes are still standing flood-related damage will require rewiring, removing floorboards, walls, dealing with mold, and much more. Residents of a number of Caribbean islands, especially St. Martin were also picking up the pieces from the horror of Hurricane Irma.
As climate-change-fueled hurricanes are devastating people’s lives, Donald Trump is quietly continuing its project of dismantling public protections and unfettering the fossil fuel industry.
DeSmogBlog recently reported that the Trump administration has begun quietly expedite the permitting process for the Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) industry. Touting LNG as a “environmentally friendly fuel,” Energy Secretary Rick Perry announced the expedited process as a way to, “unleash American energy,” to the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.
