FEATURING RAMESH SRINIVASAN – Much of the organizing against Donald Trump’s dangerous agenda is taking place on social media and using Internet technology. It is tempting to be enamored of the tools we have at our disposal to communicate with one another given how unprecedented this instant communication is. But in reality, the networks we use and rely on are designed by elites and for elites.

On a global scale this is true as well where the Western English-speaking world dominates the information and communication that is available. Rather than equalizing unequal groups, does the Internet, as it is designed today, simply reflect or even perpetuate existing inequality? If so, how can we change this design?
