Why a Detroit Woman is Suing Her City Over Algorithmic Racial Bias

FEATURING DIAMOND HARDIMAN - Thirty-two year old Porcha Woodruff is suing the city of Detroit and the Detroit Police Department over her false arrest earlier this year. Eight months pregnant at the time of her arrest, Woodruff was mistakenly identified as a carjacking and robbery suspect with the use of facial recognition technology from footage gathered by the city’s vast network of cameras. The technology has been shown to have a systemic bias against African Americans.
