FEATURING NORMAN SOLOMON - President Joe Biden’s disastrous performance at the first presidential debate of 2024 has sparked rebellion among establishment forces that had previously backed him in spite of his unconditional support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
Chief among them is the New York Times, which began calling for him to step out of the race within hours of the debate and then published an unprecedented op-ed calling on him to “serve his country” by exiting the election. But for years, a progressive campaign called Step Aside Joe–previously named Don’t Run Joe–has been calling on Biden to do the same. Now, the Biden family and some high-level Democrats are closing ranks around the incumbent in spite of very real concerns of Donald Trump prevailing in November.
