FEATURING RICHARD CAHAN – As Americans mark Veterans Day on Monday, the actual experience of soldiers in wartime is rarely explored in detail. Veterans are valorized and romanticized, sometimes pitied, and often held up on pedestals.

Now, a new book captures the experiences of World War II veterans and the war zones they fought in through the eyes of soldiers themselves. The book is, Aftershock: The Human Toll of War – Haunting World War II Images by America’s Soldier Photographers.
