FEATURING JOHN CARLOS AND ETAN THOMAS – As we continue our special reporting from Into Action, the pop-up Art exhibit and conference taking place in Los Angeles from January 13 to 21 we’ll turn next to two incredible political activists who got their start in sports. Speaking at an Into Action panel about Athletes and Activism were John Carlos and Etan Thomas two men from different generations who shared with me their views on politics.
John Carlos, the 1968 Olympian who made history along with his colleague Tommie Smith for raising their fists in a black power salute, and Etan Thomas, a retired professional basketball player who pursued social justice activism after leaving the NBA. He has just written the book ‘We Matter: Athletes and Activism.’
