FEATURING SOL MARQUEZ – Los Angeles police officers fatally shot a 14 year old boy in the predominantly Latino neighborhood of Boyle Heights on Tuesday August 9th. Police say the teenage boy named Jesse Romero shot at them as he was running away and at least one witness corroborates the story.
But another witness says they saw the boy throw a gun, which accidentally fired when it hit a fence. Romero’s mother says her son did not own a gun. LAPD recovered a rusted antique gun from the scene that they say was fired by Romero.
There has been tension and anger in Boyle Heights all week with a number of vigils and protests calling for “Justice for Jesse Romero.”
Sol Marquez, a member of Centro CSO, resident of Boyle Heights, lives in the same neighborhood as Jesse Romero’s family.
