Were Midterm Election Results Enough to Stave off Fascism?

FEATURING JOHN NICHOLS - Democrats have retained control of the U.S. Senate in the 2022 midterm elections, flipping one seat from red to blue. A runoff race in Georgia that could yield a reelection win for Senator Raphael Warnock would give the party 51 out of 100 seats. But Republicans are on the verge of wresting control of the House from Democrats. As of Tuesday November 15, the GOP has 217 seats, only 1 short of the 218 needed for a majority.

As former president Donald Trump announced his decision to run for the 2024 presidential race, what jumps out from the midterm results is that Trump’s Midas touch appears to have faded as many of the most extreme Trump-backed candidates, including election 2020 deniers who ran for secretaries of state, lost their races.
